Year 2 Curriculum
Reading
This year, children will continue to choose their own reading books. We will be introducing a reading program called Accelerate Reader. More information will follow about this in the future. Your child will complete weekly guided reading sessions in class. Children should be reading at home as often as possible and we recommend a few pages every evening with discussion to promote enjoyment of reading. We would also like to emphasise the importance of parents and carers reading to their children (books that they would not necessarily be able to access independently) to further promote a love for reading and develop their vocabulary. Books will be sent home on a Monday and must be returned to school on a Friday.

P.E
P.E will be on specific days of the week:
Miss Isherwood's PE days are Monday and Thursday.
Miss Clarkson's PE days are Tuesday and Wednesday.
Children are to come into school in their PE kit. During the Autumn/Winter months, the children may wear navy/black leggings or jogging bottoms under their PE shorts. Please ensure earrings are removed on P.E days.
Behaviour
We have a positive approach to behaviour and ask for your support in managing the behaviour of your child in school. A copy of the behaviour policy can be found on the school website and you have any concerns please come and see us as soon as possible so that we can help find a resolution.
Dojos
To reward children for positive behaviours in school we use ‘ClassDojo’. Throughout the year, your child will continue to build up their points from Year 1, which have been carried over into Year 2. They will receive certificates for their efforts, which will be celebrated at an awards assembly each Friday. You as a parent can also share information through ‘ClassDojo’ as well as message the teacher directly about any concerns or queries you may have.
