At Armfield we promote personal wellbeing and development through a comprehensive Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education programme. PSHE education is the curriculum subject that gives young people the knowledge, understanding, attitudes and practical skills to live safe, healthy, productive lives and meet their full potential. It also incorporates the statutory Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) curriculum. The topics for each half term are based around three topics:

  • Health & wellbeing

  • Living in the wider world

  • Relationships

The topics are taught from year 7 to 11 as a spiral curriculum, revisiting topics each year to deepen understanding and build on prior learning. All pupils have one hour per week of PSHE on their timetable and this is supplemented by assemblies, guest speakers and other opportunities provided throughout school. High expectations are also set for the promotion of tolerance, understanding and appreciation of the diverse communities in which we live. The key British Values lie at the heart of our lessons and the discussions which take place.

  • Democracy

  • The rule of law

  • Individual liberty

  • Mutual respect

  • Tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs
