This week, Armfield Academy students have enjoyed a double dose of English initiatives.

Firstly, all Year 7 pupils received their own Alex Rider book, thanks to the generosity of the National Literacy Trust. The book, which follows the story of a teenage spy, is one of thirteen novels in the Alex Rider series and it is sure to inspire our readers to follow Alex’s tribulations by reading the other editions in we have stocked in our library. The book will be used as end-of-lesson ‘silent reading’ tasks as the timetable transitions from one period to another.

Secondly, we launched a poetry competition to celebrate ‘National Poetry Day’. Focusing on ‘vision’ as a theme, our pupils have been tasked with penning their creativity in verse form. Prior to the launch of the competition, the students listened to interpretations of ‘vision’ from established poets via video and staff also shared their own favourite rhymes in the classroom. The deadline for entries is Tuesday 6th October.
